This course will introduce you to the use of counselling skills in everyday life, and to some of the approaches that underpin their use.

It will help you develop counselling skills for work, or for personal use.

  • Know what core counselling skills are
  • Know how to establish a helping relationship
  • Be able to use core counselling skills in a helping relationship
  • Know how to conclude a helping interaction

Unit 2: Introduction to counselling skills theories

  • Know elements of counselling theories
  • Know the significance of counselling theory

Unit 3: Diversity and ethics in the use of counselling skills

  • Know how an ethical framework relates to the use of counselling skills
  • Know what discrimination means
  • Understand about anti-discriminatory practice

Unit 4: Counselling skills and personal development

  • Know how to develop self-understanding
  • Know personal qualities relevant to the helping roles
  • Know how to meet own support needs
  • Know how self-reflection contributes to personal development

How the course works

This course is studied online. After enrolling you will receive access to your online course content on our unique online learning environment.

You can then begin the course when you are ready and progress in your own time. This course is expected to take 160 hours and you have up to 2 years to complete the course.

Level and Certification

Upon successful completion you will achieve the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (600/0728/X) qualification.

The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills is a regulated qualification. This means it is a nationally recognised qualification, regulated by Ofqual in England.

This qualification is useful for anyone who would like to develop their use of counselling skills for use in either work or a personal capacity. It does not qualify learners to practise as a counsellor.

This course has a credit value of 16 total credits.
